From this week’s Castlecomer Notes in the Kilkenny People
The sudden and unexpected death of Davy Hetherington at his home in Loon has come as a great shock to his family, friends and the wider community of Castlecomer, and Clogh-Moneenroe.
Formerly of Massford home was always where Davy’s heart was and he was delighted to return from England with his family. Blessed with a great pair of hands he built his own house in Loon, which will forever be a legacy of his craftsmanship and indeed there are several local construction projects he completed over the years. He was also involved in the automobile trade both in sales and repair.
A lifelong Manchester City fan he took great pride in his garden which was always in pristine condition. Kind, affable and outgoing he loved his daily strolls along the Stoney Road, always taking time to chat with a bit of banter for good measure.
It was fitting that he would make the final journey from the church to the strains of The Voyage, a metaphorical song about the journey of love, marriage and family life all of which were so important to Davy.
Predeceased by his father Willie, mother Jane, sister Helen, brothers John and Bill.
He was laid to rest in Crosshill Cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Moneenroe by Fr. Tom Corcoran P.P. Clogh.
Davy will be sadly missed by his wife Nora ; son Paul ; daughter Karen ; grandchildren Katelyn, Allyssia, Ollie and Mia ; son-in-law Aidan ; Anna (Paul’s partner) ; brother Jimmy ; sister Marie ; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends.
