Scoil Aireagail's apple crumble is a hit in Ballyhale! Kilkenny Live

On Monday, November 13, Transition Year Students in Scoil Aireagail were busy working in the kitchen, peeling away at apples as they prepared their apple crumbles. The students then went from door to door in the village of Ballyhale, handing out their desserts to the elderly people in the community. The elderly were very grateful for not only the sweet treats for their tea but also just to have a chat with the students. Click NEXT to see lots more photographs!

Some of the pupils are members of the Young Saint Vincent De Paul programme run for secondary schools and this will account as one of their events working with the community. Scoil Airegail is a KCETB school which lives out its ethos of care, respect, community, quality and excellence in education on a daily basis.

This was a student led activity organise by the Transition Year students. They were able to complete their initiative thanks to kind donation of apples from neighbour, Jim Angelone, and the help from their Home Economics teacher, Denis Carrigan, principal, Helen McTighe and caretaker Bobby Hearne. Luckily by the end of it, there were enough apple crumbles left over for the students to take home. Everyone left with smiles on their faces and apple crumble in their hands.
