Kilkenny school choir wins gold at European Festival

A Kilkenny school choir is celebrating success on a European stage, this week. The joined Loreto Secondary School and CBS choir has scooped gold at the Bratislava International Advent Festival .

The competition saw choirs from all over the world taking part, but the Kilkenny group  were the only Irish entry. To win gold means they scored above 90, which was a fantastic achievement.

Conductors of the choir were Lorraine Maher from Loreto and Mandy Dowling from CBS. The piano accompanist was Mary Butler. Ms Maher said "the students have done themselves, their school, families and community very proud."

Earlier this year the choirs fundraised for the trip.

The musical collaborations between Loreto Kilkenny and CBS Secondary School Kilkenny go back to the early 1990s.  The two schools often combine their talent in joint whole-school events, concerts and musicals. Generations of students have formed life long friendships and precious memories while making music together.
