Three bright and talented students from Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny are currently organising a charity walk to raise money for My Lovely Horse Rescue.

Niamh Brett, Danica Tervit Kruger and Hazel Maher recently won the senior category of the Student Enterprise County Final for their student business project, The Little Lost Collection.

The Little Lost Collection is a story book collection created to educate children on the animal welfare situation in Ireland and teach them why it is important to adopt pets.

In their recent publication, The Little Lost Puppy, Bella is the main character of the story and she is based on the true story of a dog named Britney who was in the care of My Lovely Horse Rescue.

“We based our story on one of the rescue’s longest residents Britney, a dog that was used for breeding and then discarded,” they said.

“Britney, who is called Bella in our story, had spent almost one year in the care of the My Lovely Horse Rescue team.

“She watched her friends come and go and was patiently waiting for a loving family. Britney has had many litters of puppies who were sold on for profit-making purposes , which we highlight in our book.

“Luckily, those days are now behind her as she was lucky enough to finally get adopted over the Christmas period.

“We decided to write the story about Britney as we disagree with the breeding of animals when Ireland’s rescues are currently bursting at the seams with unwanted animals.”

My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes unwanted, neglected and abused animals with the aim of giving them a life worth living.

According to the girls, this upcoming charity walk’s aim ‘is to educate as many people as possible about the animal welfare situation in Ireland’.

“We are also having a raffle to raise more money for the rescue,” they said.

“There will be a prize of brunch for two in Arán, €50 euro to spend as you wish in Red Mills and of course an Easter egg, just in time for Easter!”

Registration (€5) for the walk will take place at Wild Tails Café on Canal Walk at 11am on Sunday, March 24.

If you join the walk, you are automatically entered into the raffle draw but if you’d just like to enter the raffle or give a donation, contact them (@the.little.lost.collection on Instagram) or via email at thelittlelostcollection@gmail
