Students and teachers from Kilkenny City Vocational School
This week at Kilkenny City Vocational School students and staff are celebrating Stand Up Awareness Week 2024.
This is a time to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community and create a safe space, which they aim to do every week in KCVS.
This week the school community was honored to welcome social media sensation Padraig Wilson McCarthy - podcaster, content creator, and primary school teacher! Padraig shared his personal journey of coming out and emphasized the vital role of being an ally.
Together, they raised the school's new LGBTQ+ flag with the help of students Ron, Zoja, Frances and Kieran, symbolizing the school's commitment to inclusivity and acceptance.
"Thank you to our students, staff and Padraig who participated in making this day meaningful and to our Belong To Committee for organising everything! This is our first Stand Up Week as part of our Belong To Quality + school journey. Belong To is a national LGBTQ+ youth service that aims to create and generate safe spaces and places for LGBTQ+ young people and empower others through education," said a school spokesperson.
