The Carlow Kilkenny Association of Home Economics Teachers (ATHE) held their latest meeting in Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale.
The evening was a fantastic blend of culinary demonstration, professional discussion, and networking.
They were delighted to welcome Tom Phelan, Head Pastry Chef at the Michelin-starred Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet Estate, who showcased his expertise through a delicious demonstration, preparing Chocolate Brownie, Almond Sponge, and Chocolate Crémeux. His skill, creativity, and attention to detail made for an engaging and insightful demonstration.
With Tom was the renowned Ann Neary of Ryeland House Cookery School, adding further depth to the evening’s discussions.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity for teachers to enhance their own culinary knowledge, as well as bring new insights back to their students.
In addition to the live demonstration, the meeting included discussions on reforms to the Leaving Certificate Home Economics curriculum and an exploration of dishes for this year’s Junior Cycle Cooking Exam. Teachers shared ideas, insights, and experiences to support their students in preparing for these assessments.
