Young quiz team from Kilkenny celebrate amazing achievement at national level

The St Beacon’s National School quiz team from Kilkenny competed in the All-Ireland stage of the Credit Union Quiz competition on Sunday (April 7) in the RDS, Dublin.

On the day, forty teams competed and St Beacon’s got all the way to a tiebreaker for first place with a primary school from Ballina - both teams finishing on 50 points.

The tiebreaker consisted of three questions and the Mullinavat team (consisting of Bria Wall, Martin Raftice, Oisin Butler and Patrick Raftice) just missed out on top spot.

Over 25,000 children enter the credit union quiz each year and to finish second in the country is an amazing achievement.

All of the staff and students at St Beacon’s are incredibly proud of how well the four students have done.

Along their journey through the different stages the team have won plenty of prize money for the school and all of the long hours of practice have completed paid off.

The quiz team has raised €950 for the school in prize money by progressing through the various stages.

They have also won plenty of trophies, medals and prizes for themselves.

Questions asked during the quiz cover a wide range of topics including geography, history, music and sport.

The event provides a platform for young minds to engage in friendly competition while fostering a spirit of community and teamwork.
