Students at a Kilkenny school are set to benefit from a financial windfall.

The School of the Holy Spirit has been presented with a fund of €26,000 under the AIB Community €1 Million Fund.

Earlier this year, AIB asked its customers, the wider public, and staff to nominate registered charities, that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities, in the AIB Community €1 Million Fund.

The school was this year’s successful Kilkenny nominee and the money will help the School of the Holy Spirit to establish a School Leavers Hub — a dedicated space and programme that will prepare young people for independent living, further education, employment, and active participation in their community.

AnnMarie Butler, Principal of School of the Holy Spirit said: “We are thrilled to receive this funding from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund, which will allow us to expand our student’s experiences. AIB’s ongoing support for local organisations is invaluable, and we have witnessed the positive impact on other local groups that received funding last year.”

“The public’s nomination makes this particularly remarkable for us. It’s lovely to see how the our small school community was able to reach out into the wider community here in Kilkenny, and to see that reflected in the result of the public vote is very special.

“We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us, especially those who work with us on a daily basis and of course, a special thanks to AIB for setting up this important fund and to Jason Dempsey and the staff of the Kilkenny High Street branch who were a tremendous help in securing the public nomination.”
