Do you think Kilkenny City needs a university?

It’s been a bitter sweet time for outgoing Presentation Kilkenny Principal Shane Hallanan, who has departed the role after 18 years to take up a new position as Faith Leadership & Governance Co-ordinator with CEIST.

Mr Hallahan's time in the Principal’s chair has been remembered fondly by students and teaching colleagues alike, with his ‘steadfast leadership’ leading to a new school development providing a ‘lasting legacy’. - READ MORE HERE

In a previous interview with Kilkenny Live, the former school principal previously expressed a desire to see a university established in the city, warning that the cost of students travelling to other parts of the country for third-level education is becoming increasingly prohibitive for families.

“The provision of a University for the region (is needed),” Mr Hallanan said.

“Students in Kilkenny have to travel to cities such as Dublin, Cork, Limerick or Galway to attend University. The cost of this is proving more and more prohibitive for many families.”

The former Presentation Kilkenny Principal also admitted he would like to see a new system introduced to High Street in Kilkenny City.

“It would be nice to see High Street pedestrianised and improved traffic flow through the city.”
