UEFA EURO 2024 - All you need to know about the European Football Championship

UEFA EURO 2024, which kicks off this weekend, will see 51 matches being played over the next month - in what is the World's third-largest sporting event. 

While the Republic of Ireland will not be featuring in the tournament, there will still be significant interest among soccer fans across the country.

Where is UEFA EURO 2024 taking place?

The tournament is being hosted by Germany and matches will be played in ten different cities - Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.

How many teams have qualified?

A total of 24 teams (six groups of four) will feature in UEFA EURO 2024 with 16 making the knockout stages.

Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland
Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
Group D: Poland, Netherlands, Austria, France
Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine
Group F: Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, Czechia

When is the first match and when is the final?

The opening match of the UEFA EURO 2024, between Germany and Scotland, takes place at 8pm this Friday, June 14 at the Allianz Arena in Munich while the final takes place at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Sunday, July 14.

What time do the matches kick off at?

During the group stages, there will be three matches most days - kicking off at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm (Irish time). Two matches will be played most days during the knockout stages, kicking-off at either 5pm or 8pm.

The final will kick-off at 8pm.

Where can I watch UEFA EURO 2024 in Ireland?

All 51 matches will be broadcast free-to-air on RTÉ television and will also be streamed on the RTÉ Player. A total of 45 of the 51 matches will be broadcast on RTÉ 2 with six matches from the final round of group matches, being broadcast on the RTÉ News Channel.

RTÉ Sport's coverage will feature analysis from personalities well-known to Irish audiences, including former international players Shay Given, Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan Kevin Doyle and, for the first time, James McClean.

World Cup Finalist Didi Hamann will also feature along with Stephanie Roche, Stephen Kelly, Lisa Fallon and Richie Sadlier.
