Evergreen manager 'extremely proud' despite FAI Junior Cup exit - Kilkenny People Sport Podcast

Evergreen's FAI Junior Cup dream came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as Salthill Devon (Galway) travelled to the Kells Road and left with a 2-3 win in what a classic cup tie which went all the way to extra-time.

Evergreen manager Gary Maher was 'extremely proud' of the Kilkenny team's efforts.

"It was a great titanic battle against one of the top teams in the country and unfortunately we just came out on the wrong side of it," the Evergreen manager told the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast.

"I'm extremely proud of the effort. We prepared very very well and we done all our homework," he added.

"It's another hard luck story I suppose, but I'm extremely proud of the group of players I have. They train relentlessly two nights a week, every week, every Sunday."

Evergreen will now prepare for an away trip to Clonmullion in the Leinster Junior Cup.

"It took extra time to separate the sides and even then a last minute extra time equaliser was ruled out for offside in what was as tight a call as you will see," the club posted to social media after the match.

"Best of luck to Salthill in the rest of the competition, they are a fine side," the post commented, adding, "not the result we wanted but plenty of positives to take from an excellent display."
