Kilkenny Soccer Wrap: Find out where your club stands in the Premier Division

Freebooters' Joe Banville

The race to be top dog across the divisions in the St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division may still be very much in its infancy but even at this early juncture, the leagues have already got off to intense starts with Evergreen the only club left with a complete 100% record.

- Evergreen B 0, Newpark 2 - After a win, draw and defeat in their opening three matches, Evergreen B (sixth) couldn’t secure their second three points of the season on home turf, falling to an improving Newpark (fifth) side.

The winners were handed a tough set of opening fixtures with the big two Evergreen and Freebooters as well as McCalmont Cup winners Bridge United amongst their first five games. But following promotion to the top tier last season, two wins on the board has certainly meant the men from the bog have made a steady start.

On Saturday night, the deadlock was broken just past the half hour mark as Henry O’Neill converted his first goal of the season.

The game was on tender hooks right until the call of time when Joey Mulcahy scored the match clinching goal in the 92nd minute to secure all three points.

Freebooters A 2, Lions 1 - Freebooters (fourth) needed all their steel to earn all three points against a determined Durrow outfit on Saturday night.

Afeez Ramoni gave the blues the lead just past the 30th minute after a clever assist from Luke Browne but that lead was held for little more than 10 minutes for the Fair Green outfit as Che Walsh bagged his first Premier Division goal of the season for Lions (eighth) after netting twice for the ‘B team already this season.

The winner eventually came on the 73rd as Joe Banville found Ramoni for his second and the game defining goal.

- Deen Celtic 1, Bridge United 1 - The only Premier Division match on Sunday saw the spoils shared at the Prince Grounds.
Both goals came in the second half as fans were lift gripped to the action right up until the final whistle.

Steven Daly’s second goal of the season gave the Deen Celtic (10th) the advantage only for their first win of the season to be snatched away in stoppage time as Josh Barcoe, on a high after his wonder goal against Evergreen B popped up with an equaliser for Bridge United on the 90th minute to keep them third in the table.
