There were three games in last weekend’s St Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division an incredible 12 goals racked up at all three venues.
It’s certainly been a month for the goalscorers so far with just two games from October’s 12 Premier Division matches recording a clean sheet.
FREEBOOTERS A 2 THOMASTOWN UNITED 1 - The action got underway on the Fair Green last Saturday night as Freebooters (third) recorded their fourth win of the season with a hard-fought win over Thomastown United (seventh).
After a difficult start to the season, the away side had won two of their previous three league matches going into Saturday evening’s encounter and will be hopeful their trip to last year’s runners-up will only be seen as a stumbling block in the weeks to come.
The Thomastown outfit made the better start and were rewarded with the game’s first goal in the 10th minute.
Tim Cummins created the opportunity for Kasper Konapka to score his first goal in the top tier this season.
The city team levelled proceedings just before half-time from the penalty spot. Joe Banville struck the all important goal on the day and has now hit the target three matches in a row.
As the clock ticked towards the 83rd minute it appeared both teams would have to be satisfied with a point, a result the Grennan men would no doubt happily taken pre-match.
However, step up 20-year-old Aaron Hughes who greeted Bill Trehy’s pass with a strike on goal which beat goalkeeper Nathan Sherry and secured the three points.

But, a courageous Deen Celtic (10th) got back into the game five minutes later with the two Cs combining. Cooney to Coogan with the latter Tommy scoring (1-2).
The Castlecomer club couldn’t pull off the comeback their fans would have been hoping for though, as the floodgates opened at the other end of the pitch.

NEWPARK 1 LIONS 2 - Newpark’s hopes of a third win in a row were put to bed by a strong Lions (sixth) team with the Durrow outfit coming from a 0-1 half-time deficit to snatch all three points at the death.
