Plans are in place to open the Rosbercon to Glenmore section of the South-East Greenway ‘in Quarter 2 of this year’.

This update was issued to local councillors by Kilkenny County Council Senior Planner, Denis Malone, at this month’s meeting of Piltown Municipal District Council.

In order for it to open, a visitor carpark and public lighting must first be completed.

A tender was recently issued to a contractor to conduct the requisite works and these works are due to be completed within the next eight weeks.

“There is still also a road safety audit to be addressed and a sign-off on insurance needed,” added Malone.

The carpark that will be put in place will be temporary in nature, with a permanent finished carpark still planned.

Malone also confirmed that the greenway is now classed as ‘a transport project’ as funding is set to be delivered in future from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
