Councillors in South Kilkenny have called for intervention to facilitate better access to a local graveyard.

At the latest meeting of Piltown Municipal District, Cllr Eamon Aylward raised the issue in relation to Rathkieran Graveyard in Mooncoin.

"Access is nigh on impossible at present due to the height of the weeds and the grass," he said.

"It was cut before and it needs to be cut again."

Cllr Pat Dunphy agreed, stating that some stones lay hidden beneath the overgrowth, posing potential trip hazards to visitors, to which Cllr Aylward replied by saying 'it's very dangerous'.

Area Engineer Stan Cullen confirmed that the graveyard had been subject to previous maintenance efforts and that the district would look into the issue.
