Water issues ‘seem to be worse than they ever were’ in area of Kilkenny

Water issues raised once again by councillors in Kilkenny

Water issues in areas of South Kilkenny ‘seem to be worse than they ever were’, according to Cllr Fidelis Doherty.

Her comments came at this month’s meeting of Piltown Municipal District.

Cllr Pat Dunphy voiced his dismay at the meeting when informed by council executives that Irish Water had not formally responded to an invitation to attend the meeting, only acknowledging receipt of the correspondence.

“There are areas where water’s gone every three or four days or at least once a week,” he said.

Cllr Tomás Breathnach stated that ‘the frequency of leaks is indicative that the pipe needs repair and replacement’.

Cllr Ger Frisby stated that the costs for continued call-outs to local areas ‘must be astronomical’ and added that ‘somebody needs to put the horse before the cart’.

Cllr Eamon Aylward agreed about the water issues, adding that it was his understanding that Irish Water would be setting up a liaisons office soon to deal with councillor queries.
