Maurice McCarthy RIP
An appeal to raise funds to bring home the remains of a young Kilkenny man who died in New Zealand has raised more than €54,000 in less than 24 hours.
Maurice McCarthy, who was from Mullinavat, passed away in New Zealand on Monday. An appeal was launched to raise funds to repatriate his remains to his homeland and in less than a day the sum raised has rocketed.
It is a mark of the love and respect held for Maurice, who is described as "beautiful, kind, fun-spirited."
Writing on the appeal page, organiser Hannah Lonergan says: "Maurice was a hugely popular character who was known and loved by so many in Ireland and abroad. Maurice made the move to New Zealand in October 2019 and to say he flourished there is an understatement. In his short 25 years, he touched so many lives and made so many journeys. It’s time now for his final journey back home to us in Mullinavat."
