Ongoing traffic issues were to the fore of a discussion held by elected members in relation to the ongoing development works at the North Quays in Ferrybank.

“Whoever is responsible for the traffic lights is not getting it right,” Chair of Piltown Municipal District, Cllr Ger Frisby, stated at this month’s area meeting.

Referring to the traffic lights erected near Abbey Road as part of the North Quays traffic management plan, Frisby stated that they were ‘lasting for about ten seconds’.

“Videos are being put around about it,” he said. “They can’t be working properly. They’re going on for ten seconds when there’s a queue of cars, maybe 200 cars going all the way up to the grotto. The issue was a huge one when canvassing. It’s causing great frustration in the area.”

Cllr Tomás Breathnach concurred with Cllr Ger Frisby, stating that some drivers are using ‘excessive speed’ in the area due to the possibility that the ‘traffic lights would turn against them’.

The comments made by both councillors were noted by Director of Services Ian Gardner, who will look further into the matter.
