Pictures: Celebration night for Kilkenny's Beekeepers!

It was acknowledged that the 2025 beekeeping season once again proved to be a challenging year due to very dry ground conditions that resulted in nectar bearing plants such as the blackberry crop not developing as it should.

The confirmed arrival of the Asian Hornet in both Cork and Down raised concern amongst beekeepers across the country and poses further challenges for the future.

However, it is evident that public interest in bees and beekeeping is increasing and greater public awareness of these types of threats help to keep them at bay.

Condolences were offered to the family of John Gantley on his very sad passing. John was a dedicated member of South Kilkenny Beekeepers Association for many years and will be sadly missed.
