ICYMI: Kilkenny takes action against invasive species

Did you attend this community gathering in County Kilkenny this week?
Following the identification of Himalayan Balsam in the Windgap area, an evening to remove the pink flowering plant before it set seed and spread further took place at Kearns Bridge in Tullahought on Thursday at 7pm.
The invasive species is a tall, fast-growing annual plant native to the Himalayas. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century as an ornamental garden plant, it has since become a highly invasive species, particularly thriving along damp riverbanks, woodlands, and ditches in Ireland.
Volunteers were asked to wear gloves, strong shoes and long sleeves.
