From this week’s Windgap Notes in the Kilkenny People

Following the identification of Himalayan Balsam in the Windgap area, an evening to remove the pink flowering plant before it sets seed and spreads further will take place at Kearns Bridge in Tullahought tonight (Thursday) at 7pm.

The invasive species is a tall, fast-growing annual plant native to the Himalayas. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century as an ornamental garden plant, it has since become a highly invasive species, particularly thriving along damp riverbanks, woodlands, and ditches in Ireland

Gloves, strong shoes and long sleeves are required.
