Local Fine Gael councillor, Michael Doyle has hailed his supporters after missing out in the Carlow-Kilkenny General Election over the weekend.

The South Kilkenny based candidate was eliminated on the tenth count, finishing in ninth position out of twenty candidates with 5,467 votes.

"I'm really proud of my friends, family and John Paul (Phelan) who supported me. I don't think we could have done any more," he told Kilkenny Live.

"(I'm) more than disappointed but more than proud of the team," he said, adding, "it was a phenomenal experience, the number one role for a public representative is getting out there and listening to the people, I enjoyed doing that."
