Kilkenny City Harriers’ athlete Eoin Everard won the Streets of Portlaoise 5k on St Patrick’s Day
It was a happy St Patrick’s Day for Eoin Everard as he ran to victory in the Streets of Portlaoise 5k.
The Kilkenny City Harriers athlete blazed a trail through the Laois course to finish first in the event, the opening round of the 2023 Peugeot Race series.
Everard had a battle on his hands for first place. Part of a fast group of early pacers he delivered a top class performance, injecting a late dash along the finishing strait to beat Clonmel AC’s William Maunsell by the narrowest of margins. Everard finished in a time of 14:36 - one second ahead of Maunsell. He averaged 2:55 per kilometre for the course.
The Harrier will now look to make it two wins from two in the series when he lines up for the Streets of Kilkenny 5k on April 6. Entries for the event, which will bring people on a fast two-lap course of the city centre, are open here
