Extra-time goals help St Kieran's land Leinster Junior Hurling title

St Kieran's defeated Kilkenny CBS in UPMC Nowlan Park this afternoon

St Kieran's College are Leinster PPS Junior Hurling A champions once again but not before they had to fend off a stern challenge from city rivals Kilkenny CBS.

The two neighbours engaged in a thrilling contest at UPMC Nowlan Park that required goals from Bill McDermott, Conor Holohan and Ruairi Power to see the winners home in extra-time.

An early Patrick Lacey goal had given Kilkenny CBS an advantage that they held till half-time but Kieran's eventually turned the tide with a brilliant second half display.

Kilkenny CBS only scored five points in the second 30 minutes and needed wing back Oisin Henderson to knock the equaliser in stoppage time.

The Dicksboro pair of Anthony Clifford and Patrick Lacey had been the leading lights till that stage but led by 10 points from Jake Mullen who is the youngest of the famed Ballyhale family , the winners got on top and with Conor McEvoy and Hugh Whelan also starring they may feel that they should have got the job done in normal time.

Kilkenny CBS ran out of steam for the following 20 minutes with a James Bergin score, their sole effort for the rest of the game.

That point arrived just after Conor Holohan netted Kieran's first goal and in truth that broke the CBS lads spirit and even before the change of ends, there was a second goal as another player from a famed family got himself on the scoresheet with Ruairi Power (son of Richie) finding the target.

Bill McDermott then got Kieran's third goal within seconds of the resumption for the second period before Ben Nevin and Jake Mullen rounded off the scoring in a 3-21 to 1-16 victory.
