Lisdowney hit the final five points of the game as they saw off Carrickshock in Group A of the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Intermediate league on Saturday.
Prior to the late surge, there was very little between the sides and it was goals from David O’Carroll, Liam Dunphy and Jake Holohan that gave the North Kilkenny side the edge.
Carrickshock had made all the early running with Jake O’Dwyer standing out on placed balls and a first half goal from Eoghan O’Neill had given the ‘Shock a 1-10 to 1-7 lead at the break.
Carrickshock only scored seven points in the second however of which only two came from play so it was no surprise that Lisdowney managed to grind them down in the closing stages.
It proved to be a free-flowing league encounter and the sides were deadlocked at 0-4 apiece by the halfway mark of the opening period.
Lisdowney briefly hit the front with points from Brian Kavanagh and Dylan Jordan but Carrickshock then took the game by the scruff of the neck with John Power and Aaron Roche landing big scores before Eoghan O’Neill scored a brilliant goal in the 28th minute as he batted a shot past Kilkenny panelist Aidan Tallis.
Kevin Farrell quickly followed up with a score to make it a five point game before Lisdowney crucially got their first goal of the game on the cusp of the interval through Liam Dunphy.
That left Carrickshock with a three point buffer at the change of ends but within two minutes of the restart, Lisdowney found the net again when Luke Holohan grabbed a long delivery from Kevin Sweeney before firing home.
Despite that goal, Carrickshock managed to stay with their opposition through multiple points from O’Dwyer and a Mikey Murphy effort from play before Lisdowney found a third goal seven minutes from time when a flowing move ended with David O’Carroll finding the net.
Back to back scores from Jake O’Dwyer who scored 11 points in total left just a point in it going down the stretch but it was from here that Lisdowney took command.
Kevin Sweeney had been relatively quiet up to this point but the Lisdowney midfielder helped his side over the line with three late points.
Brian Kavanagh and Charlie Brennan also pointed before the end as Lisdowney won out by six come the final whistle (3-17 to 1-17).
