Former Kilkenny manager offers verdict on Shefflin appointment

New Kilkenny camogie manager Tommy Shefflin

Former Kilkenny senior camogie player and manager Ann Downey is optimistic the appointment of Tommy Shefflin as the county's senior camogie manager will make for a 'good year' for the Cats in 2025.

Shefflin was a selector during Brian Dowling's successful period as Kilkenny senior camogie manager which saw the Cats claim All Ireland titles in 2020 and 2022, while on the club front, the Shamrocks Ballyhale clubman was part of the Piltown managerial team during the 2024 season with the South Kilkenny club winning their first senior championship in their history.

"(He is) full of energy and has a great graw for camogie, I mean what he has done with Piltown on the back of winning their first county championship and where he has brought that team from (has been superb) and he'll do the same with Kilkenny," Downey told the Kilkenny People Sport Podcast.

"I have no doubt it, next year will be a good year for Kilkenny."
