The Callan United girls' under-17 team booked their place in the National Cup final with a 2-1 win over Dublin side Kilnamanagh
A Kilkenny soccer club scored a proud first as one of their girls' teams booked their place in a national cup final.
There were cheers all over Callan as the Callan United under-17 girls' team reached a national final for the first time in the club's history.
United stood firm as they got the better of Dublin outfit Kilnamanagh on the Fair Green, the hosts going through on a 2-1 scoreline. Chloe Tennyson and Roisin Foley (penalty) grabbed the goals as Callan saw off the Dubs, the home club of Irish international and Champions League winner Katie McCabe, to book their place in the final.
Callan will face Connacht opposition in the FAI Women's Under-17 Cup decider as they take on Athenry of Galway.
TABLE QUIZ
To help the team prepare for their big day, Callan United have organised a fundraising table quiz.
The big event will be held in The Cosy Inn, Callan Saturday, June 14. All supporters and club members, past and present, are encouraged to get behind the team and help give them the send off they deserve. Teams of four are €20 a table, with a raffle to be held on the night also.
