The entry sheet for the Kilkenny GC mixed foursomes is posted on the notice board under the stairs.

Closing date for entries is Friday. Entrants can put their names on the sheet and place the entry fee of €12 in an envelope in the bar.

VOLUNTEERS - Volunteers also needed to help out with the Scratch Cup on Saturday, May 6. Names can be posted on the sheet on the men’s notice-board.

COURSE - The Monday evening divot repair sessions will resume shortly. Names to 087-1250853.

The bridge season was brought to an end with dinner, followed by the presentation of prizes.

Bridge will continue on a monthly basis for the Summer with a session on the first Monday of each month at 7.30pm with the exception of the Bank Holidays, when the session will be held on the second Monday of the month.

SNOOKER - The singles snooker competition has reached the semi-final stages. Paul Carroll will face last year’s beaten semi-finalist, Pat Wall, while Martin Hanrick faces Brendan Power in a battle of former champions.

CARR - Kilkenny overcame Callan GC in the JB Carr Trophy by 3 ½ to 1 ½. Brian Cullen and Mick O’Flynn were beaten on 18th, Pat Hickey and Gerry O’Dwyer won 3&2, Pat Collins and Paddy Smee won on the 18th, having turned four down while John Marnell and Michael McCarthy won 5&4. Jim Ryan and Tom Moore were two up when called in. Reserves were John Geoghegan, Mick Daly, Jim Meredith. Team Managers: Willie Leahy, Eddie Guilfoyle.

TOWNS - Kilkenny made a successful debut to their 2017 Provincial Towns Cup campaign when beating Callan GC 5-4. At home Tom Buckley won on the 17th, Brian Delaney lost on the 18th, Derek Shelly lost 5&4, Michael O’Shaughnessy won 3&2 and Richie Power won 6&5. Away James Bateman won 7&6, Rob Kearney lost 3&2 while P.J. Martin lost 3&2. Steve Rochford, who was first out, was taken down the 19th. Both players had putts of equidistance and after measuring them, the toss of a coin was required to determine who putted first. Callan putted first and missed. Seamus held his nerve and won the crucial point to secure overall victory.

Kilkenny face Gowran in the next round. Team managers are Fergal Cantwell and John Byrne.

BARTON - The Kilkenny Barton Cup Team failed in their effort to progress further in the competition when they lost to 4-1 to Callan GC in their second round match.

At home Kieran Hoban and Pat O’Shea lost 6&5, Sean Boland and Tom Buckley lost 5&4 while Paddy Crotty and Rob O’Shea were three up when called in while playing the 16th. Away Derek O’Gorman and Rob Kearney were one up on the 17th when called in while Dermot Doyle and Gus Carey lost 3&2. Team managers were Liam Cody and P.J. O’Reilly.

SENIORS - Results, seniors 13-hole competition, April 13: 1 John Bracken, Martin Murphy, Myles McCabe, Andy McEneaney, 69pts; 2 Mick Crotty, Jack Nolan, Gerry Bowe, Michael O’Neill, 67pts; 3 Willie Leahy, Donie Butler, Jim Meredith, Paddy Hally, 65pts; 4 Pat Drennan, Richie McEvoy, Eamonn Everard, Tom Keating, 64pts; 5 John King, Martin Mullane, Brian Keane, Joe Ledwidge, 63pts (B6); 6 Tom Gunning, Michael McCarthy, Jimmy  Rhatigan, Pat O’Briain, 63pts; 7 Billy Burke, Des Byrne, Bob Greany, Joe Nolan, 61pts. Welcome to two new society members Michael Culhane and Eamon Everard.

There will be no seniors competition tomorrow (Thursday) as the week is taken up with the National Clergy outing. Next competition is on April 27. Play starts at 10:30am. Draw closes at 11.15am.

The first seniors away outing is to Carlow on Monday, May 8. An entry sheet and details will be posted on the senior men’s notice-board during the week, with the field restricted to the first 60 names.

JUNIOR - Results, junior/juveniles 18-hole singles, April 12: Boys - 1 Bobby O’Mahony (6), 41pts; 2 Michael Kennedy jnr (18), 39pts; 3 Jack Walsh (6), 37pts. Girls - 1 Ellie Peters (36), 2 Abbie O’Donoghue (36), 3 Katie Keenan (6).

LADIES - The Ladies into Golf group had their first nine hole competition last Tuesday. There was a good turn out on the day.

Results: 1 Ann Russell, 9pts; 2 Rosaleen Ryan, 8pts.

The next competition is on April 25.

The Revive Active Ladies Fourball Team beat Templemore 3-2 on Friday. Kilkenny had three matches at home, with two away.

At home Mary Leahy Browne and Martina Naughton won 3&2, Mags Cuddihy and Marian Woods were beaten 4&3, Bridie McGarry and Stella Coughlan were three down with four to play but won the remaining four holes to secure victory.

Away Phyl Doyle and Catherine King won 5&4, while Evelyn Crotty and Liz Neary lost 3&2. Team managers are Margaret Kiely and Mary Hickey.

Results, ladies 18-hole ABC stroke, April 8, 9 and 11: Class A: Gillian McDonnell (16), 71. Class B: Mary Hickey (21), 76. Class C: Mary Moynihan (31), 75.

Results, ladies nine-hole stableford, April 11: 1 Lourda Everard (20), 18pts; 2 Jo Duggan (23), 17pts; 3 Breda Kavanagh (30), 16pts.

The Junior Cup team are out against New Ross GC today (Wednesday) in Waterford at 3.30pm.

The Minor Cup team will face The Curragh GC in Carlow on Saturday.
