Kilkenny golf: Gowran get ready to celebrate birthday

Borris golf club Captain, Des Murphy presents the Captain’s prize to the winner, Joe O’Neill.

Gowran Park are hosting an 18 hole singles competition over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The competition runs from Saturday, August 4 to Monday. It is open to ladies and men.
To celebrate the club's 17th year in business, it has been decided to inviting visitors to play in the competition and enjoy the course for a special entry fee of €17. Timesheets now open. Tel 056 7726699 or online.
OPEN WEEK: The inaugural charity Open Week in aid of Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre, Kilkenny continues this week.

Kevin O'Sullivan (20) won the Sean Og O'Sullivan Captain's prize played in trying conditions. Forty-five played in the qualifier. The cut off was nett 79.
After scoring a nett 63 in the qualifier Kevin scored a nett 71 in the decider for a total of 134 over both rounds. Second with 135 was Simon Williams (15). Third was Michael Dempsey (13) 139 and in fourth place was Michael O'Neill (14) on 139.

SCRAMBLE: On the August Bank Holiday Sunday the club is holding a three person Champange Scramble. Shotgun start 9am.
All participants to be signed in by 8.45am. Members are asked to have a guest on their team, if possible. There will be refreshments in the clubhouse immediately after the event when the presentation of prizes (including the Captain's prize) will be made.

TEAMS: The men's Barton Cup Leinster semi-final match against Baltinglass will be played on Sunday afternoon. The club has an excellent chance of getting through. There are two matches at home and three away.
The club South Leinster side play Wicklow on Saturday (2.30pm) in the quarter-finals.
SENIORS: The weather was hot and the scoring was extra hot. That was the story from the outing last week. Twelve teams enjoying the fun.
With a great run on the ball high scores were expected, and that was what happened. All teams recorded scores above the mid-ninety point mark. The runaway winners had a fantastic 107 points
