Kilkenny golf club: time to collect your prizes folks!

The monthly presentation of prizes will be in the Clubhouse at Kilkenny golf club on Friday (9pm).
The following is the list of competitions being presented - Wednesday, July 18 ladies and gents Open singles; Saturday, Sunday, Monday, July 21, 22 and 23 July monthly medal; Saturday, July 28, the Prochem Engineering, Intermediate Scratch Cup; Monday, August 6, Captain’s four person team Charity Day.
All prize winners are requested to attend.
If they are unable to do so, they should arrange for a colleague to represent them.
GOLFER OF YEAR: The Kilkenny Honda Centre Golfer of the Year leaderboard is changing from week to week with a qualifying competition every weekend this month.
There are two strokeplay competitions left. They are the August monthly medal and the President’s prize, and also points to be allocated to the top eight in the singles matchplay which is also nearing completion.
An updated leaderboard will be on display on the noticeboard from today (Wednesday) and every week until the end of August.
FAREWELL: On Sunday the very popular, Liam Barry, bid farewell to Kilkenny golf club after 16 years service to members.
Liam joined the ‘Bar Brigade’ in 2002 after a career with the Defence Forces and he succeeded Peter Walkin as Bar Manager in 2005.
A staunch Kilkenny hurling supporter and an even more fanatical Dicksboro man, he was always prepared to debate and defend his beloved teams.
His famous rendition of ‘Tipperary, one in-a-row’ was welcomed by a lot of members but not necessarily by all - including the writer.
All at the club wish Liam many happy days in his retirement and look forward to seeing him on the golf course.
GOLF CLASSIC: The annual Golf Classic fund-raiser for the Society of St Vincent de Paul will be played in Kilkenny golf Club on Wednesday, August 22.
This will be a three person team event. It can be booked online or by contacting the club.
The cost per team is €75. The presentation of prizes will take place at 9.45pm.
All support of the Society would be very much appreciated.
LOST AND FOUND: A number of members have lost a club on the course over the past couple of weeks.
If anyone found one and forgot to hand it in, they could do so now and give it in to the bar.

The next competition for seniors is on Thursday.
It is President Billy Burke’s prize to the senior gents.
This will be a 14 hole competition which will incorporate Golfer of the Year Round 3.
Play starts at 10am off the 5th tee. Check in is from 9.15am. Draw closes at 11am.
There is a choice of hotplate to follow golf with prize giving thereafter.
Next month's diary - Monday, September 10 away outing to Thurles; Thursday, September 13, Captain Willie Leahy’s prize and Golfer of the Year Round 4; Thursday, September 27 Golfer of the Year Round 5.
LADIES CLUB: All new lady members, including ‘Ladies into Golf’ members, are invited to meet up and chat next Tuesday (7pm) in the clubhouse.

A great day’s golfing was had on Saturday for Lady President Ann Widger's prize.
Except for a few showers it was perfect golfing weather.
A total of 121 ladies played and Ann Lee proved to be the popular winner with an excellent 40points.
She pipped Barbara Teehan by one point.
The President conveyed her thanks to all participants for providing an excellent day’s golf and to all those members for an extremely enjoyable evening.
CLUB COMPETITIONS: Ladies are requested to ensure that they check the notice board to see who they are playing in the club foursomes, fourball and the Nore Cup.
As there were an uneven number of teams there will be a draw for all remaining stages of the competition.
All have been asked to play matches on time. Failure to do so puts pressure on everyone in the subsequent rounds.

The next competition for the seniors is on Thursday. It is a nine hole event, playing 1 to 4 and 14 to 18.
This is to accommodate the senior gents President’s prize which will be starting at 10am off the 5th.
Draw takes place at 9.30am for immediate tee off.
JUNIOR/JUVENILE: The end of season fun day is scheduled for Friday, August 31.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: Social mixed golf is on Friday.
All should note the earlier sign in time of 5pm for a shotgun start at 5.30pm.
