SENIORS: There was a large field for the seniors classic. Golfers experienced damp conditions during the early holes but the weather improved, particularly on the back nine.

HOLE-IN-ONE: Duggan Cup team manager Martin Brennan scored a hole-in-one at the par three ninth hole in the Thursday 18-hole open singles.
TGIF: Great progress has been made to date with all 10 rounds now completed. The remaining wildcard round runs until tomorrow (Thursday).
In the ladies section, round ten saw the in-form Margaret O’Keeffe (lady captain) and Emer Foley consolidate their positions in first and third respectively, while impressive rounds of golf from Helen Murphy and Caroline Conway resulted in both securing positions nine and 10 on the leaderboard and automatic final places. With two places in the final up for grabs in this week’s wildcard round, interest is at a premium.

As with the ladies, this week’s wildcard round for the men will arouse great interest. COURSE NEWS: The club has purchased a new rough mower. The new equipment was bought following the great successful Team Championship Classic in May, which was organised by club members Fergal O’Neill and Colin Dunne.
Following the parched conditions in May, June and early July, where sprinklers more than proved their worth, moderate rainfall in August has resulted in recent excellent growth. With fairways and rough mown to exacting standards the course staff, led by Michael Doheny and Colin Hughes, have continued to present the course in top condition.
LOTTO: There was no winner of the lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 7, 19, 24 and 26. The jackpot is now €5,000.

Owing to heavy rain, President Frank Costello hand to cancel his prize-giving day at Mountain View GC on Sunday. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 9.
PRIZE: There was a big turn out for Lady Captain Mary Holden’s prize. The 18-hole single stableford was played in perfect golfing conditions.

These popular competitions are open to golfers with handicaps from 0 to 4 (Senior Scratch) and 5 to 9 (Junior Scratch).

LADIES: The Open Ladies Curtis Cup, sponsored by Swiss Financial Services, will be held today (Wednesday). A four-person team event, presentations for this competition only will be made on Wednesday evening at 9pm. All prize winners, representatives and club members are asked to attend.
MATCHPLAY: The draw for the mixed matchplay has been done and is available in the bar. Please arrange with your opposition to play your matches as soon as possible.
The men’s singles and foursomes matchplays have now reached the final stages.
Pairs who are still in the fourball matchplay must complete their matches as soon as possible.
POT: The Split the Pot prize of €135 was won by both Anthony Connick and Junior Cashin. Next draw is on September 4.
SENIORS: The seniors had their outing on Thursday, going with a champagne scramble. They say “a good start is half the battle” and so it was with Willie Naddy (20), Aidan O’Connor (20), Tony Sexton (21) and Jamesie Murphy (24) who carded a terrific 55 points on the outward nine holes and then added 49 on the back nine to emerge clear winners with a cracking total of 104 points.
Second on a countback over the last six holes and with a final total of 95 points came Denis Kirwan (12), Paddy Bennett (20), Dick Cahill (21) and Frank Boyle (23). The third spot was filled by John Browne (13), John F. Roche (21), Tom O’Shea (24) and Jim Kehoe (25) with 95 points also.
Nearest the pin prizes were won by Aidan O’Connor (ninth hole) and Martin Furlong (11th hole).
Seniors who wish to come on the outing to Ballykisteen when New Ross is closed for coring and sanding should contact Jamesie Murphy as soon as possible. The deal there is two nights B&B, two dinners and two rounds of golf for €149. Eighteen players already currently booked in.
Seniors player Tom Kent won the coveted PGA Tankard in a club competition recently. Scoring a winning total of 40 points with a scratch on the 16th hole, Tom turned back the years - he won the Captain’s Prize way back in 1972.
Arrangements have been made by the Chairman to have tea/coffee available from 9am every Thursday before the seniors’ outing. This gesture is much appreciated as anyone feeling like a cuppa can now have it before their round of golf.
