Kilkenny golf: Mark Power and Graham Nugent in hot form

Kilkenny golf: Mark Power and Graham Nugent in hot form

What an extraordinary week it was. Two of Kilkenny’s leading golfers produced superb rounds of golf.
First up in the ladies and gents Open singles on Wednesday of last week, Mark Power (+5) shot a magnificent 64 gross. He carded nine pars, eight birdies and one bogey (16th). He went out in 32 and came home in 32..
Not to be outdone, Graham Nugent (scr), playing in the October Monthly Medal, had a superb and flawless round of 63. He recorded 10 pars, seven birdies and an eagle (out in 33 and home in 30).
Were those rounds good enough to break the course record previously held by Gerry Stewart (7) from 1996-2001 when he had a 64 gross in July, 1996.
Craig Martin (1) shot a 65 gross in August 2008, (adjusted course) to set the course record, which he continues to hold today.
With placing on the fairways for Mark and Graham’s round, Craig’s 65 looks like holding.

Any unused portion of the €50 on that date will be forfeited.
MAINTENANCE: With Winter approaching members are requested not to go out on the course if there is frost on the ground. This can damage the greens when walking on them.

The course closed sign will normally be up, but if not members are requested to use common sense and not endanger the course.
Members are also requested to observe etiquette and good manners towards the course staff.
The workers endeavour to work ahead of golfers each day, but if members skip out to start on the 3rd or 5th hole it is difficult for the workers to keep ahead.
