Kilkenny golf: there was a scramble to play in Mountain View scramble

Twenty-one teams took part in the three-person charity scramble at Mountain View GC on Sunday, helping to raise over €500 for the Stroke Unit at St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny.
The event, which was organised by the ladies club, was run in memory of the late Ann Murphy and will be held annually. Ann’s husband Liam has donated a perpetual cup which will be presented in Ann’s memory to the winning team each year.
Sunday’s winners were the Gowran Park trio of Aisling Costello, Mickey Hutchinson and Joe Colclough with 57.9.
The Mountain View team of Catherine Walsh, Denis Brennan and Pat Ryan were second with 60.3 while Castlecomer’s Margaret O’Keeffe, Martin O’Neill and Paul Walsh were third with 61.1.
Speaking at the presentation of prizes, Lady Captain Mary Holden thanked Liam and his family for providing the fantastic trophy for this now annual event. She also thanked all took part and the management on Mountain View for the use of the course.
SINGLES: The club will hold a Bank Holiday Weekend open singles competition across Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Entry is €5 for members and €15 for visitors. Tee times are available from 056-7768122.

The ladies club hosted a successful end of season singles competition at Callan GC on Saturday.
A very large turnout helped make the day memorable, with the good weather adding to the occasion.

The inaugural Savour Gowran Golf Festival will be held over the Bank Holiday Weekend at Gowran Park GC.
Running from Saturday to Monday the format is a three-person team event, with food and wine prizes for all winners. Entry fee is €25 for visitors, €10 for members.

Cierán Kelly and Colum Lynch delivered an entertaining battle in the singles final at Castlecomer GC. Cierán edged out Colum in a thrilling game.
FOURSOMES: Micheál Coogan and Fergal O’Neill took the foursomes crown when beating Cierán Kelly and Marty O’Shea in Saturday’s final. In a most competitive match, played in excellent conditions, Micheál and Fergal won 3&2.
FOURBALL: Nicky Walsh and Joe O’Dowd beat Michael Brennan and John Kelly 3&2 in the eagerly-awaited fourball final on Saturday afternoon.
