Running is on the menu in Kilkenny City this Christmas

’Tis the season to be jolly, but the festive period also gives people the chance to get out and about - and build up an appetite for the Christmas dinner!

While Kilkenny is known for its wide range of activities, runners are spoiled for choice with a number of events around Christmas Day.

The popular Parkrun will be held as normal on Christmas Eve, giving people the chance to run, jog or walk the 5km course around the Castle Park before tackling any last-minute shopping. This fun, free event has gone from strength over the years and is open to all - just remember to bring your barcode!

The Castle will be the start point for the Kilkenny City Harriers festive run on Christmas Day. Starting at 11am, this year’s run is in aid of The Samaritans in Kilkenny. It is a free event, but all donations are welcome - and you can run in your Santa suit!

Finally, anyone looking to burn off the Christmas pudding can join with the James Stephens GAA and camogie clubs and take part in their festive fun run. Some of the proceeds from the event, which has 5km and 10km options, will go to the School of the Holy Spirit on the Callan Road. Registration is from 10.30am at the club’s Larchfield base, where the run will start at 11am.
