WELLNESS TIPS FOR THE NEW YEAR
New Year’s resolutions can be overwhelming in the New Year. Keep calm and focus on making small, simple and easy changes that are attainable.
Lisa Doyle, Health Club Assistant Manager in Newpark Hotel Kilkenny, has a list of simple and easy wellness tips for 2019.
Take five minutes to plan your week
Take time to schedule your week, whether this is meals, gyms classes or simply taking an hour to go for a walk. Creating a realistic structure with exercise and healthy meals is a great aid to stay on track.
Get a good night’s sleep
Sleeping patterns can suffer during festivities with late nights and not so early mornings. A good night’s sleep is essential in order to feel well, a minimum of eight hours sleep a night will help in fighting sickness in the winter months too.
Add fruit or vegetables to every meal
Fruits and vegetables have shown to promote longevity, disease prevention and overall wellness. They are a useful way to fill up too, a good guide is to ensure half your plate is vegetables when having a meal.
It’s hard to begin exercise and fitness routines in cold and dark winter months. But getting active can be made easier by going for a walk on your lunch break or a group fitness class. Aim for 30 minutes activity daily to begin.
Water has fantastic benefits, it helps detoxify our bodies along with combating winter bugs, increasing energy, flushing out toxins, improving skin complexion and boosting immunity. If you find it difficult to drink water try adding some fruits to give it flavour, like lemon, lime, cucumber or berries.
