Kilkenny’s 2026 championship journey ended last weekend

Legendary Kilkenny forward TJ Reid has spoken out for the first time since Kilkenny’s exit from the Leinster Championship on Sunday.

The Cats lost away to Dublin, marking their earlier departure from the championship since 1996.

“Championship over in May. Nobody wants to write that. Nobody wants to feel it,” Reid wrote.

“But here's what 20 years in elite sport has taught me about days like Sunday.

“The loss doesn't define you, what you do next does. In all my years pulling on that black and amber jersey from winning to the losses, the setbacks, the one thing that never changed was this.

“The standard you return to after a defeat is the real measure of who you are.,” he continued.

“Not the trophy, not the celebration,” Reid added.

The seven-time All-Ireland winner, who some are speculating may call time on his inter-county career, is now firmly focused on returning to work at his popular gym on the Dublin Road.

“I'll be going back to work because resilience isn't something you talk about, it's something you build - day after day, in the moments nobody is watching,” he concluded.
