The Goresbridge/Paulstown club are returning to the second tier for the first time since 1995 after claiming the junior hurling title last October.

The historic win sparked scenes of jubilation among players and supporters alike. Now, however, their focus has shifted to the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League/Championship.

“Last year was unbelievable, this year is a whole different ball game. We’ll use the experience from last year and hopefully it will do us well for next year,” Drennan told Kilkenny People Sport.

“There’s lads in that club who have longed for a junior championship and to play that day and to celebrate it was unreal so hopefully we can do that justice by giving it (intermediate) a rattle,” he revealed, admitting he can’t wait to begin the 2026 season.

“You’re kind of waiting, waiting and waiting (for the league to start) so look, hopefully now in the next couple of weeks we’ll get a couple of wins that we’re looking for.”

Despite moving up the ranks, the preparation has largely stayed the same according to the Barrow Rangers centre-back.

“We’ve kept doing it the way we’ve been doing it since last year, we’ve played a good lot of challenge matches and we’ve been trying to get challenge match against teams, I suppose, up a level a bit on what we’ve been playing the last while,” Drennan continued.

Stay tuned for more interviews from the launch of the intermediate and junior league/championships over the coming week.
