A new status yellow thunderstorm warning has been issued for Ireland, including Kilkenny, as Met Éireann has announced today that heavy showers are likely over the next 24 hours.
A thunderstorm and heavy showers warning came into effect at 12pm and will remain in place until 10pm tonight.
Met Éireann said that spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions are all possible.

A mix of cloud and sunny spells are expected this morning, with scattered showers developing. Showers will turn heavy, with thunderstorms developing for the afternoon and evening, bringing the possibility of hail and localised flooding.
Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, south to southwest breezes.
Showers and thunderstorms will begin to die off overnight, except for coastal areas though isolated showers may continue further inland.
