A frosty start to the New Year as Met Éireann predict first weather forecast of 2025
Met Éireann has issued its first forecast of the year with some mixed conditions ahead for the coming days.
New Year's Day will be a bright, fresh day with sunny spells as well as some scattered showers. These showers will be most frequent in the west and north where they are expected to turn to hail and sleet later in the day. Highest temperatures will range from 4 to 8 degrees.
It will get much colder on Wednesday night with more wintery showers in the north and west. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees with widespread frost and ice developing.

Thursday will have similar conditions with a mostly cold, dry day and some scattered light showers. Temperatures will be lower on Thursday, ranging from 2 to 5 degrees.
Friday will also be a largely dry and bright day with the odd shower. Another cold day is in store with highest temperatures reaching from 3 to 6 degrees.
There's more frost on the way on Friday night with temperatures dipping to -3 degrees. Some mist and fog patches will also develop across the country.
Met Éireann say that there is some uncertainty for the weekend's forecast but so far current indications suggest similar conditions with the possibility of sleet and snow in places and further outbreaks of rain.
