Kilkenny photographer selected to feature in top-class astrophotography exhibition

Kilkenny photographer selected to feature in astrophotography outdoor exhibition

Karol Ryan - Ballycotton Lighthouse

A Kilkenny man’s photo, ‘The Sturgeon Moon, Ballycotton Lighthouse’, has been selected to feature in the 2023 Reach for the Stars astrophotography outdoor exhibition, run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

The photo was captured by Karol Ryan from Kilkenny City.

The image captures the full moon rising behind the Ballycotton Lighthouse, a beautiful moment in time where the lunar cycle and architecture come together in perfect harmony.

The photographer timed the shutter to capture the beam from the lighthouse as it shines over the reflection of the full moon in the Celtic Sea.

Karol Ryan’s image will be showcased as part of an outdoor exhibition at DIAS's premises at 10 Burlington Road, Dublin, from today (Tuesday, August 1).

The 14 top-rated images from the competition will be displayed alongside Karol’s. The exhibition is free to attend.
