Grab your tickets! Kilkenny's St Brigid's Festival returns this bank holiday weekend

The weekend will celebrate the patron saint of midwives, newborns, Irish nuns, fugitives, blacksmiths, dairymaids, boatmen, chicken farmers, cattle, scholars, sailors, and no doubt, many more.

Back for the second year in a row, St Brigid's Festival, celebrating music and arts in Kilkenny, simply cannot be missed!

Taking place from Friday, January 31, to Monday, February 3, the long weekend of events promises to have something for all members of the family.

On Friday, a sold-out haunted darks tour is beginning at the Kilkenny Castle at 7pm, but fear not, also starting at the same time is a drama, titled 'The Quiet Land', taking place at Barnstorm Studio on 3 John’s Quay.

Later on in the evening, at 9pm, in Cleere's Bar and Theatre, Broken Chanter will take to the stage to perform his latest album, 'Chorus Of Doubt'.

The fun is just beginning as on Saturday morning at 11am, a St Brigid's Cross workshop is to be held at St Canice's Cathedral, celebrating the patron saint of midwives, newborns, Irish nuns, fugitives, blacksmiths, dairymaids, boatmen, chicken farmers, cattle, scholars, sailors, and no doubt, many more.

That afternoon, at 3pm, Bren Berry in conversation with Mark McCausland kicks off at Cleere's Bar and Theatre where the two men will be speaking about Berry’s debut solo album, 'In Hope Our Stars Align', which is released the day before this event takes place.

Another sold out Kilkenny darks tour is to occur at 7pm, the same time as 'The Quiet Land's' second night at the Barnstorm Studio in 3 John’s Quay.

Just an hour later, musician Roseanne Reid will perform in Ryan's Bar at 8pm.

Billy Byrnes is the place to be at 9pm on Saturday, with The Kilo 1997 taking to the stage to play a free gig!

And onto Sunday, Mother Tongues and Collapsed Adults will begin their unmissable performances in Billy Byrnes at 5pm.

In this double bill, Mother Tongues is the solo project from Dublin-based drummer and producer Dennis Cassidy, who samples long-lost Irish vinyl and cassette recordings, unearthed from years of digging, along with this, producer and vocalist Chris Coffey, best known for his work with the critically acclaimed indie-electronic band The Holy Roman Army, is stepping into the spotlight with his ambitious solo project, Collapsed Adult.

For their last night, 'The Quiet Land' will once again preform in the Barnstorm Studio at 7pm.

Also on Sunday, popular band Poor Creature will be taking to the stage at 7:30pm in the Set Theatre, and going back to Cleere's Bar and Theatre at 8:30pm, cover band Alchemy Fox will keep the good vibes going with their amazing performances.

Finishing off the incredible weekend of music and arts is Elaine Howley, a vocalist, musician and producer who merges an expansive tapestry of experimental, analogous processes with a love of classic song-writing and emotive melody, to create a sound world that is distinctly her own.

Elaine will bring her amazing music to Billy Byrne's at 10pm.
