Citizens of Australia and New Zealand who live in the South-East of Ireland have a strong tradition of remembrance of their country men and women who served in the ANZAC Forces on ANZAC Day, which is commemorated annually in their homelands.
A large number of Irish men joined up when they had emigrated from Ireland during World War I. Many died from the counties of the South-East of Ireland, including Kilkenny. For the last number of years a regional ceremony has taken place in Kilkenny to allow them to be remembered by all.
An event will be held on Sunday, April 27 at 4.30pm. The location is the Kilkenny Great War memorial in the Peace Park, Kilkenny. The ceremony will consist of poetry, prayer, music, national flag raising, wreath laying, Last Post and Reveille as well as the respective national anthems.
