An extraordinary life: Film that tells the story of Patrick Lydon and Camphill to be screened in Kilkenny

Watergate Theatre in December

For more than a decade Éamon considered making a film about the Camphill way of life, but it was only when Patrick shared the news of his terminal illness diagnosis that ‘the penny dropped’ and Éamon realised the story he needed to tell was Patrick’s. In sharing Patrick’s life and work the story that Éamon wanted to tell about Camphill would emerge.

“At that point, it was not so much that I wanted to make this film, it felt I had no choice.

“This was a last chance to take a look at the world and his work in it, through his extraordinary lens.”

The story became Born That Way and the film made it’s screen debut at the Dublin International Film Festival, earlier this year, winning the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle Award for Best Irish Documentary.

Now it is coming home to Kilkenny, with two screenings planned for the Watergate Theatre on Monday, December 1 (5.30pm and 8pm). It will also be screened at Visual, Carlow, on December 2, and Brewery Lane Theatre in Carrick on Suir on December 3.
Tickets are available from each of the venues.
