Launch of Kilkenny Civil War calendar tomorrow - featuring historian Jim Maher

A special once-off Kilkenny-themed 100th Anniversary Civil War calendar is set to be launched tomorrow in Kilkenny City.

A wealth of historical information and pictures can be found on the calendar showcasing some key local figures and events from this culture-defining period of Irish history.

The calendar has been painstakingly been put together by local history boffin Jim Hayes, who has devoted countless hours to its assembly.

Wonderfully colourful and informative, with original pictures and research included, the calendar is a must for local history enthusiasts.

Some of the many fascinating topics include:

  • General Liam Tobin - A Kilkenny Connection
  • Samuel Oakes - 1st Battalion Kilkenny Brigade IRA
  • Sister against Sister - Cumann na mBan agus Cumann na Saoirse
  • The Kathmandu Hideout near Kilkenny
  • The Civil War Almost Began in Kilkenny

The official launch of the Kilkenny Civil War Calendar will take place in the Club House Hotel tomorrow (Tuesday, November 29) at 8pm.

The calendar will be launched by Kilkenny historian Jim Maher and a presentation will be made on the evening by calendar author Jim Hayes.

The launch is free and open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
