Parking rules on Kilkenny city street queried after 'large number of tickets' issued

Rules around parking on Kilkenny city street queried after tickets issued

Councillor Andrew McGuinness

Councillor Andrew McGuinness (FF) has queried the issuing of tickets to vehicles parked on a street in Kilkenny city.

The comments were made after 'a large number' of vehicles got ticketed at Horse Barrack Lane.

The city councillor called for clarity on the rules around parking on the street, stating that it needs to 'be properly signposted'.

"What are rules around parking there? It should me made clear where parking is or isn’t allowed," he said.

His query was fielded by Kilkenny County Council Senior Engineer, Tony Lauhoff.

Lauhoff stated that the paving on the street is granite and granite isn't usually marked.

He further clarified that 'there are parking notices on lampposts on Horse Barrack Lane' but committed to 'looking into improving visibility there'.

It was also noted during the meeting that vehicles parked there would potentially impede emergency vehicle access.
