Housing development in Kilkenny refused planning permission

An Bord Pleanála have refused planning permission for a proposed seventeen unit housing development at Dangan, Kilmacow, County Kilkenny.

Plans for the housing development were previously refused by Kilkenny County Council in 2021 however the applicant, CSC Construction Limited, subsequently appealed the decision to the national planning board.

An Bord Pleanála stated that given the design and layout of the proposed development, and the disposition of open space within the proposed development, it would result in a poor design concept that is substandard in its form and layout due to the lack of sufficient high quality appropriately landscaped usable open space.

The planning board also stated that the public open space proposed comprises a narrow tract of land, and would lead to conditions injurious to the residential amenities of future occupants.

The proposed development would, therefore, 'be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area'.

An Bord Pleanála's decision to refuse permission was made on December 20, 2022.
