A windfarm proposed for North Kilkenny has been deemed to be a strategic infrastructure development by An Bord Pleanála.
The proposed Ballynalacken Windfarm is to be located 4.5km northwest of Ballyragget, in the townlands of Loughill, Ballynalacken, Ballymartin, Commons, Firoda Upper and Byrnesgrove, County Kilkenny.
The windfarm is to comprise of 'nine wind turbines of .6MW/6.5MW installed capacity each, meteorological mast, access roads electrical substation compound and control buildings, grid connection and all associated works'.
The Board decided that the proposed development falls within the class of energy infrastructure relating to a wind power installation for energy production as set out in the Seventh Schedule of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.
Furthermore, the Board decided that the proposed development would satisfy the conditions contained in section 37A (2) (a), (b) and (c) of the Planning and Development Act and that a planning application should be made directly to the Board.
The applicant will now be in a position to make the application for the windfarm directly to An Bord Pleanála.
