The Butts in Kilkenny
Funding in the region of €900,000 will be applied for as part of the Butts Regeneration Plan.
Director of Housing at Kilkenny County Council Mary Mulholland told members of the Kilkenny City Municipal District that Kilkenny County Council has agreement from the Department of Housing to submit for funding over a three year period.
The plan will look at ‘the physical and social issues of the area’ and part of the process will involve listening to feedback from the public on various issues including anti-social behaviour and focusing on amenities in the area.
If the funding application is successful, work on the place will start later this year and will be led by the Town Regeneration Office.
The funding application includes a socio-economic assessment, consultation, stock condition surveys, site surveys, appointed facilitators and consultation in respect of implementation plan, an onsite regeneration office and liaison officer. publication of a plan and co-ordination of delivery.
All or some of the proposal may be funded from the Department of Housing. If the proposal is part funded the council may be able to seek alternative funding for elements separately.
In his final meeting as mayor, Cllr David Fitzgerald welcomed the plan and described it as being ‘long overdue’ adding that ‘the people of the Butts have been very patient over the years’. Cllr Andrew McGuinness remarked that public consultation is of ‘huge importance’.
