A small cottage in rural Kilkenny was seriously damaged by fire, this week.
The cottage, in Ballylarkin just a mile from Freshford, is believed to be uninhabited since the most recent resident passed away, some years ago.
The alarm was raised in the early hours of Thursday morning. Four appliances from the fire service attended the scene at about 2am, coming from Freshford and Urlingford Fire Stations. Gardaí and ESB were also present at the scene. A garda investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of the fire, but it is not thought to be suspicious.
Extensive damage has been caused to the cottage by the blaze, with most of the roof destroyed, as can be seen from a photograph of the building above.
