Tributes are being paid to the talented showband singer and much-loved publican, Andy Murray, who died on Monday.
Andy was the lead singer of Fifth Degree and went on to front the Black Aces Showband in the late 1960s.
Andy ran Little Andy's on Ormonde Road, which was described as 'Kilkenny City's smallest bar', and was a local institution.
The Kilkenny man is also fondly remembered for his involvement with the pantomine and for treading the boards at the Watergate Theatre and for his beautiful singing voice.
Andy is sadly missed by his daughters Gemma and Andrea, sons-in-law Niall and James, brothers Sean, Michael, and Joe, sisters Peggy, Mary, Monica and Joann. Andy will be forever missed by his sisters-in-law Joan and Liz, grandchildren Charlie, Billy, Recce, Harry, Freddie and Faye, his nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. He is predeceased by his wife Maria (nee Brennan), his parents Sean and Myra, his brother Martin and his sister-in-law Peggy (nee Long).
Andy will be reposing in Shasby’s Funeral Home, Kilkenny City (R95 FH1F) on Wednesday (January 17) from 5pm to 8pm with rosary and vigil prayers at 6.30pm. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday (January 18) in St. Mary’s Cathedral and followed by burial in Foulkstown Cemetery, Kilkenny City.
The funeral cortege will walk to “Little Andys Pub” enroute to Foulkstown Cemetery.
